Sen. John McCain knew that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter was pregnant when he picked her for his running mate - he had learned about it in a private conservation with Palin last week, according to McCain’s chief campaign strategist.
But campaign chief Steve Schmidt, calling it a “private family matter,” says the campaign only decided to disclose the pregnancy when “smear” rumors started surfacing on the Internet. He suggested somewhat ruefully today that once word got out, the media could not be trusted to handle the matter with “decency.”
It should have no bearing either on the race or Palin’s ability to serve as vice president, he said.
“Life happens in families,” Schmidt told reporters crowding around him in the basement of the arena where the Republican National Convention is opening today. “If people try to politicize this, the American people would be appalled by it.”
The campaign was forced to disclose the information, the manager suggested in his talk with reporters here.
Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is offering to plead guilty to one or two felonies, leave office, pay a fine and restitution and perform community service — so long as he doesn’t go to jail, a source close to his legal team said Sunday.
Frustrated by what they consider stubbornness by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in ongoing plea talks, the mayor’s lawyers have offered to bring in facilitators — perhaps a judge or well-respected legal figure — to review the offer, the source said.
The hope is to persuade Worthy that the deal is “politically palatable” and similar to penalties anyone facing similar felonies would receive, the source said.
Worthy has consistently maintained Kilpatrick must do jail time. Last week, talks broke down when she suggested he serve four to six months as part of the deal that would resolve eight felonies stemming from text-message scandal that erupted in January.
Kilpatrick, who spent one day in jail in early August, is willing to leave office but remains adamant that he doesn’t want to serve more time, sources close to him said. He faces felonies that are punishable by 15 years in prison.
According to TMZ, The Game is being charged with battery, which stems from a confrontation between Game and his cousin Robert “Kirky” Kirkwood one month ago, over some money during a family member’s funeral. After an exchange of heated words, The Game allegedly punched his cousin. The cousin called police and reported the incident. The Game is already on probation for a firearms offense. That means that Game could a get a little jail time.

Just when we thought T Pain could go no further the machine man himself has remixed a gospel song! Which would be great if the song held the same meaning but from what I hear the song has a worldly meaning! T Pain has taken Kirk Franklin’s “Silver and Gold” and remixed it to describe Patrón “Silver and Gold”. Read this foolishness via MTV:
Pain cut called “Silver and Gold” leaked to the Internet a few months back, with the Tallahassee, Florida, native singing about the effects of blending clear and colored Patrón tequila together for consumption. “You’ll be hanging, swanging, drinking two types of Patrón,” he sings. “I done mixed up silver and gold/ I done mixed up silver and gold/ I’mma tryin’ to get drunk before this party/ Somebody’s gonna have to carry me home/ I done drank the silver and gold.”
While Pain’s following ate it up, non-secular-music kingpin Kirk Franklin had to put a call into the young singer. Franklin debuted the original “Silver and Gold” on his 1993 Kirk Franklin and the Family album. The gospel version goes: “Silver and gold/ Silver and gold/ I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold/ No fame or fortune/ Nor riches untold/ I’d rather have Jesus than silver and gold.”
Pure folly!

Stride Rite Corp. has reacquired the rights to the Pro-Keds brand from financially struggling hip-hop mogul Damon Dash.
The change for the iconic, 60-year-old shoe comes a week after Dash, who once boasted that he never wears the same socks twice, reportedly may lose two of his properties to foreclosure.
Lexington-based Stride Rite insisted Dash’s financial woes had nothing to do with the rebranding.
“It was just a matter of timing,” Stride Rite spokeswoman Debra Fernandes said yesterday. “We just wanted a new direction.”
Pro-Keds was launched in 1949 as a performance athletic shoe. By the 1970s, the round-toed sneaker was synonymous with some of the biggest names in professional sports - JoJo White and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar endorsed them.
The shoe also enjoyed a cult-like status in New York City’s early hip-hop community.
With a hole in the bottom of her shoes, a 49-year-old Florida woman has arrived in Chicago - after walking the whole way with one main goal in mind.
WBBM Newsradio 780’s Steve Miller reports on the serendipitous end of her journey.
Debra Flinn arrived in Chicago after 1,600 miles. She said she walked because she says she needed to lose weight. Finn said weighed 216 pounds at the beginning of her journey and now says she has dropped about 35 pounds.
Her goal, though, was to meet Oprah Winfrey.
Flinn says she arrived Monday and was walking along Michigan Avenue.
“And guess who I ran into? Stedman. Oprah’s boyfriend.”
And of course, she remained calm.

According to TMZ Swizz Beatz and his EX- Mashonda owe the IRS. $842,644.52 to be exact. Damn! This comes after the IRS reported Swizz as being #13 on Forbes’ Hip Hop Cash Kings list. If that’s the case something is not adding up and i don’t think Uncle Sam is playing.

Solange states that every track on the album, Sol-AngeL & The Hadley St. Dreams, is written from personal experience. She tells Giant magazine, “I am unapologetic; I don’t write about things unless they’re true. I’m a grown-a$$ woman and I’ve experienced grown-a$$ things.”
Yeah, you’ve experienced grown thangs: baby, married, divorced, & from what’s being said, the album tells more.

According to WSB-TV (Atlanta) Jermaine Dupri’s Buckhead restaurant, Cafe Dupri, has closed its doors for good as of last week. WSB-TV, also says that restaurant employees have been complaining for weeks now about not being paid, bounced checks and bank notices of insufficient funds. They also said that some of the employees came to work even after utilities were shut off recently. Jermaine Dupri’s mother, Tina Mauldin, told Channel 2 Actions News the restaurant closing was a “business decision”. She also took a swipe at her former employees, saying maybe if the employees had worked harder, Cafe Dupri would still be open.
*Wow!! For real mom. I honestly don’t see how it was open this long because its Vegetarian soul food. Its all nasty!!
